Please consider posting a stickied update on the forum if you’re able to speak in an official capacity just so we have a thread where we can get an official word, rather than buried 500 posts deep in a megathread.Įdit: trying to figure out why “I understand things come up” got censored.Usually, Forge of Empires news comes from Beta spoilers. While I understand why this PR strategy is used, it’s very frustrating to deal with as a customer when the company just clams up and won’t say anything when a major change happens and people are naturally looking for information. I just don’t want to get hyped about a patch only to be met with no patch and radio silence to explain why. The real world happens and I’m content to wait. I’ll speak for myself here, because I don’t want to presume to speak for the entire community, but I understand that things come up. Thanks for the update! I just wrote a comment in another thread lamenting the lack of communication. Kind of like being at the DMV when you forget something. The drawback is that after that got fixed, patches and hotfixes for other titles were already scheduled and approved for launch and so this update had to be re-scheduled after those things… Which had already been scheduled after this one’s initial release date. My understanding after asking about it some more is that the long turnaround time is a result of something on Valve’s end. Work on a DLC that may or may not be fully completed at this point, but for whatever reason they decided to push forward for it in this update. I still suspect that there’s a technical reason for this, such as: meddling of AoMR in, maybe game engine update or the like. If the team does not behave like an atomic entity, it means a manager somewhere is messing up and staying in the way of things when they shouldn’t. In fact, most software development works like this. Even if the team has members from several companies, they work as an atomic entity, as if they are one company. Most games are developed by several companies, including the likes of Call of Duty and other AAA games from large companies. this probably makes the chances of messes easier to occur since more humans more problems. i dont think 1 company has complete control over things. All i think while Microsoft studios owns the actual IP and contracts out. WE does alot of promotion and integration plus sometimes assets creation, tantalus does a lot of the back end and engine work, and FE does asset creation and balance. We got to remember that aoe3 development is split between 3 companies and microsoft. The case with AOE3 so far: the developers did a lot of great work, but we are really afraid to let you know. I also see the recent Total War Pharaoh, one that is very unappreciated (I’m among the weirdos who look forward to it though), and every announcement is hit with replies asking for Warhammer or Medieval 3, but they still persist in their campaign of “look at the sandstorm or the appearance of the archers!” Many developers and publishers cannot help to share any tiny little new updates to their game, even when it’s laughably minor.įor example “we added two fantasy creatures that will occasionally show up on some maps” -teased for more than a month.ĬOH3 has just barely been rescued from a hot mess, but they are bold enough (in a good sense, ironically) to continuously advertise bugfixes and addition of basic functions as major patches, with fancy names like Operation Kryptonite Armadillo or sth. Probably the same people that decided to leave out AoE3 at the anniversary event are the ones that continue to treat this game like an unwanted stepchild.
